Origin

Highball with no documented inventor; emerged as vodka surged in popularity in the United States from the late 1950s onward, following the highball template established by the gin and tonic and bourbon-and-soda.

The simplest cocktail — clean, light, and endlessly drinkable.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 4 oz Soda Water
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice.
  2. Add vodka.
  3. Top with soda water.
  4. Squeeze and drop in a lime wedge.

Tips

  • The quality of vodka matters more here than in any other drink.
  • Add a splash of cranberry for a Cape Codder.
