Built with: Tequila · Lime · Soda Water · Grenadine · Salt

Origin

Mexican folk cocktail with no documented inventor. Earliest possible date is 1955, when Squirt grapefruit soda was first exported to Mexico; the drink rose to popularity in Mexico in the 1970s-90s. Don Javier Delgado Corona of La Capilla, Tequila, Jalisco is sometimes credited but the attribution is unverified.

Mexico's favorite tequila cocktail — grapefruit, lime, and fizz.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • ½ oz fresh Lime juice
  • Soda Water (or grapefruit soda)
  • Splash of Grenadine
  • Salt for rim

Instructions

  1. Rim a tall glass with salt.
  2. Fill with ice and add tequila and lime juice.
  3. Top with soda water and add a splash of grenadine.
  4. Stir gently and garnish with a lime wedge.

Tips

  • For an easy version, use Jarritos grapefruit soda instead of soda water + grenadine.
  • Mezcal works great here for a smoky Paloma.
