Mojito

HighballMuddle & build

Origin

Cuban folk cocktail with no single inventor; antecedents trace to 16th-century Caribbean tafia drinks (the 'Draque'). Modernized at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana from 1942, popularized worldwide by association with Hemingway.

A refreshing Cuban classic with mint and lime.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1 oz fresh Lime juice
  • ¾ oz Simple Syrup
  • 6–8 fresh Mint leaves
  • Soda Water

Instructions

  1. Gently muddle mint leaves with simple syrup in a tall glass.
  2. Add lime juice and rum.
  3. Fill with ice and top with soda water.
  4. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Tips

  • Don't over-muddle the mint — you want to release oils, not shred the leaves.
  • Use crushed ice for a more authentic texture.
