Hot Toddy

Irish Coffee MugBuild
Built with: Bourbon · Honey · Lemon · Whole Clove · Cinnamon Stick

Origin

British folk drink with no single inventor; originated in 18th-century Scotland (likely as a sweeter alternative to neat Scotch), with the name first appearing in print in 1786. Possibly linked to Edinburgh's Tod's Well water source or to the South Asian palm-sap drink also called 'toddy'.

Variations

  • Scotch ToddySwap bourbon for blended scotch
  • Irish ToddySwap bourbon for Irish whiskey

Whiskey, honey, lemon, hot water — the cure for whatever is wrong with you.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Bourbon (or Scotch, or Irish whiskey)
  • 0.75 oz fresh Lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 4 oz hot water
  • 3 whole Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Add the honey to a warmed mug and pour in a splash of hot water to loosen it.
  2. Stir in the whiskey and lemon juice.
  3. Top with the remaining hot water.
  4. Drop in the cloves and cinnamon stick.
  5. Let steep for a minute before drinking.

Tips

  • Pre-warm the mug with hot tap water — keeps the drink hotter, longer.
  • A lemon wheel studded with the cloves is a tidier garnish than loose cloves.
