Hot Toddy
Irish Coffee MugBuild
Origin
British folk drink with no single inventor; originated in 18th-century Scotland (likely as a sweeter alternative to neat Scotch), with the name first appearing in print in 1786. Possibly linked to Edinburgh's Tod's Well water source or to the South Asian palm-sap drink also called 'toddy'.

Whiskey, honey, lemon, hot water — the cure for whatever is wrong with you.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Bourbon (or Scotch, or Irish whiskey)
- 0.75 oz fresh Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon Honey
- 4 oz hot water
- 3 whole Cloves
- 1 Cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Add the honey to a warmed mug and pour in a splash of hot water to loosen it.
- Stir in the whiskey and lemon juice.
- Top with the remaining hot water.
- Drop in the cloves and cinnamon stick.
- Let steep for a minute before drinking.
Tips
- Pre-warm the mug with hot tap water — keeps the drink hotter, longer.
- A lemon wheel studded with the cloves is a tidier garnish than loose cloves.
