Gimlet
Origin
1928
Origin contested. The popular naval-surgeon-Gimlette story is unsupported (he was 19 when Rose's Lime was first issued to the Royal Navy). The drink owes its existence to Lauchlan Rose's 1867 patented lime cordial; the first printed gimlet recipes appear c. 1928 in MacElhone's Barflies and Cocktails.
