Origin

Jennings Cox · Daiquirí, near Santiago de Cuba · 1898

American mining engineer Cox is credited with mixing the first daiquiri at his Cuban mining camp during the Spanish-American War; popularized in the US after 1909 via the Army and Navy Club in Washington.

Not the frozen kind — a clean, elegant balance of rum, citrus, and sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1 oz fresh Lime juice
  • ¾ oz Simple Syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds.
  3. Fine-strain into a chilled coupe glass.

Tips

  • This is a drink of balance — adjust sweetness and acidity to taste.
